HDM President will be Keynote Speaker at Asian American Unity Dinner For Immediate Release
Cambridge, MA ... Ms. Kija Kim, President of Harvard Design & Mapping Company, Inc. (HDM) has been invited to be the keynote speaker at the 9th Annual Asian American Unity Dinner to be held on Saturday, May 6, 1995 at the Sheraton Boston Hotel. The Asian American Unity Dinner, the largest annual event of its kind in New England, commemorates the month of May as Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month. The theme for this year's gala is "Vision and Change". As in past years, over 1,000 guests are expected to attend. Ms. Kim is recognized for her community leadership and entrepreneurial success, exemplifying the theme of this year's gala. The gala will also acknowledge outstanding individuals and community organizations for their contributions to the Asian American community. Born and educated in Seoul, Korea, Ms. Kim immigrated to the United States in 1966 to continue her studies in geography. She was among the first to apply computer aided design (CAD) techniques to mapping, leading to present day geographic information systems (GIS) technology. In 1988 Ms. Kim co-founded Harvard Design & Mapping Company, Inc. in Cambridge, MA the first GIS firm in New England. Ms. Kim has been recognized for her outstanding achievements in various areas. In 1994, she was named "Woman of the Year" by the Women's Transportation Seminar, Boston Chapter, and the New England Council also presented her with the "Woman in Business Leadership" Award. Recently, she was chosen as a finalist for "1995 Business Woman of the Year" by the New England Women Business Owners (NEWBO) Association. Ms. Kim is active in political and community affairs. She serves on the Clark University (Worcester, MA) President's Council, and the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Software Council. She is an active member of the Korean American Citizen's League of New England, and the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence. Las year she chaired an annual fundraising gala, "Silk Road", to benefit the Asian Shelter and Advocacy Project, New England's first and only shelter for battered Asian women.
