HDM Presents At Federal Depository Library Conference For Immediate Release
CAMBRIDGE, MA HDM's Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Wei Du, presented an overview of HazardMaps.gov at the 2002 Federal Depository Library Conference. Representing the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Dr. Du participated in the Conference Session focusing on electronic information initiatives, drawing over 150 people to his presentation. HazardMaps.gov is an interactive mapping resource for multi-hazard planning and management that HDM developed for FEMA. It combines data archive and upload capabilities with an online, interactive web atlas, providing the first ever simultaneous, nationwide view of multiple natural hazards. Debuting in May 2002, the site has logged more than 100,000 visitors and 377,000 web site hits, and was named a USA Today Hot Site of the Day. I am very excited to have the chance to share the work that HDM has completed for FEMA, said Dr. Du. We are pleased that our presentation was so well attended, and that the attendees can help the public gain access to valuable hazard information. |
