HDM has worked extensively with natural hazards mitigation, response and recovery.

On the federal level, HDM is a partner in FEMA’s hazard mitigation program. As the independent contractor for nationwide flood data quality control / quality assurance, HDM has reviewed over 1,500 community and county-wide Q3 and DFIRM flood data files since 1992. HDM also developed the first government multi-hazard mitigation web site for FEMA. One of the most successful government sites, it organized data related to hazard identification/ delineation, risk assessment, and disaster related activities. As an extension of this work, HDM is a key participant in the development of FEMA’s Management Information Portal, the portal for accessing FEMA's geospatial data collection and delivery system.

Commercially, HDM works directly with insurance companies, real estate firms and financial institutions in the development and enhancement of their hazard mapping and geocoding processes. HDM has integrated our worldwide geocoding web service - Geocode Global™ - at one of the largest international insurance property and casualty companies in the world. The application is used to enhance underwriting estimates and geo-locate properties in real time.
